Representatives of dozens of industrial and technology companies, research institutes and academia from the European Union and Israel gathered this week on the occasion of the founding of MADEin4, a new European consortium designed to promote the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The first gathering of the consortium is hosted by Applied Materials, which develops and manufactures advanced semiconductor chip control equipment and serves as the consortium's coordinator.
MADEin4 has 47 industrial and technology companies, research institutes and academia from the European Union, among others Austria, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Hungary, France, Romania, Sweden and Israel. The goal of the joint organization is to demonstrate the capabilities of industry 4.0 to improve production through the development of various methodologies that combine information analysis, machine learning capabilities, artificial intelligence and the Internet of things. The consortium is also designed to develop advanced tools and capabilities in the field of metrology for the chip industry as well as for the automotive industry.
The new consortium, which was established this year, is one of the largest projects in the European Union, and its scope of activity is estimated at 130 million Euros. The EU provides direct funding of about 25% -30%, and a similar percentage comes from participating countries (in Israel through the Innovation Authority). The balance will be financed by the participating companies.
Over the course of two days, technology managers from the various organizations gather for meetings of coordination of research and information sharing, a review of innovations in various fields, a review by representatives of the Israeli Innovation Authority, and others. A special innovation day for the participants was sponsored by Applied Materials, Nova, Broker, KLA, Nanomushan and IDIC, the Israeli-Dutch Center for Innovation at the Dutch Embassy to expand technological cooperation between the Netherlands and Israel.
Among those who came to Israel were representatives of FIA companies. Electron Optics of the Netherlands, Fiat Chrysler of Italy, Mentor Graphics of France, Thermo Fisher of the Netherlands, France and Italy, and more. Representatives of research and academic institutions will come from METO, the Netherlands Institute for Applied Research, the German Federal Metrological Institute, Delft University of the Netherlands, the University of Eindhoven from the Netherlands, Aymek of Belgium, and others. The consortium includes small and medium-sized companies as well as international companies operating in Israel, including Mellanox, Tower Jazz, KLA, Nova, Nanomotion and Broker.
"We are proud that Israel is the focus of broad international cooperation aimed at moving forward companies and organizations throughout Europe," said Ron Naftali, chief technology officer of Applied Materials Israel, "Israel can and should contribute not only to the innovation it produces itself, We are confident that beyond the professional message to promote the industrial revolution 4.0, the new MADEin4 consortium is important for maintaining Israel's technological leadership capacity in the world, and the consortium will promote the establishment of contacts for research and business cooperation in the future".
