Terrorist Attack Targets Civilians on Route 90 Near Oja in the Jordan valley

Posted on Mar 28, 2024 by Ifi Reporter

In a harrowing incident earlier this morning, a shooting attack rocked Route 90 near Oja in the Jordan valley. According to initial reports, a terrorist ambushed a passing bus in the area, unleashing a barrage of gunfire before fleeing the scene. The attack, believed to be premeditated, left a trail of casualties and prompted a swift response from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

The Medical Corps of the Israeli army (MDA) swiftly mobilized in the aftermath of the assault, attending to the wounded and coordinating with law enforcement to secure the area. Three passengers traveling in two separate private vehicles bore the brunt of the attack, sustaining injuries of varying severity.

Zachi Heller, spokesperson for MDA, provided crucial insights into the incident during an interview with Nissim Mashal and Tal Shalu on 103FM. He revealed that among the injured were a 30-year-old man, critically wounded, and a 21-year-old and a 13-year-old, both with less severe injuries. Despite the chaos, MDA teams managed to reach the victims at the entrance to the settlements, swiftly administering aid before transporting them to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in Jerusalem for further treatment.

Eyewitness accounts shed light on the terrifying moments as the attack unfolded. Uriel Reynos, an emergency medic with MDA, recounted the scene near the settlement of Naama, where he encountered a 13-year-old boy with facial injuries caused by shattered glass. The boy, caught in the crossfire, received immediate medical attention before being transferred to Shaari Tzedek Hospital for further evaluation. Reynos further revealed that the boy and his companions had come under fire while traveling along Route 90 near Oja, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the assailant's actions.

The incident has prompted heightened security measures in the region, with IDF forces swiftly mobilizing to apprehend the perpetrator. Reports indicate that the terrorist, disguised in an IDF uniform with a green covering over his face, remains at large as authorities intensify efforts to ensure the safety of civilians in the area.

As investigations continue into the motives behind the attack, the resilience of the affected communities and the swift response of emergency services stand as a testament to the unwavering resolve in the face of adversity.
