The IDF spokesman confirmed the deaths of two soldiers from the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Brigade during recent combat operations in the northern Gaza Strip. Sgt. Itai Farizat (20) from Petah Tikva and Sgt. Yair Hanania (22) from Lower Galilee were both killed, with an additional soldier seriously injured and hospitalized.
Sgt. Hanania's family received the devastating news from army representatives on Saturday. His sister-in-law, Shari Hanania, shared that Yair, the eldest of six siblings, was set to be released in about two months. He was known for his deep connection to the land and people of Israel, his musical talent, and his commitment to meaningful service.
Nitzan Peleg, head of the Lower Galilee Regional Council, praised the Hanania family, highlighting Yair's dedication to his combat service and his significant role in the community. He had recently performed for veterans at the Gil HaGalil day center, embodying the spirit of service and commitment.
Sgt. Farizat Remembered by Friends and Community
Yaniv Farizat, Itai's father, expressed profound sorrow over the loss, stating, "It is with great sadness that we announce that the crown of our head has fallen." Itai was a close friend of Sgt. Reuven Assoulin, who was killed five months ago, and a mutual friend shared a tribute, urging Assoulin to "watch over us from above."
Almog, a close friend of Farizat, reminisced about their friendship, stating, "You were there for me and I will never forget you for that." The mayor of Petah Tikva, Rami Greenberg, also expressed condolences, honoring Sgt. Farizat's service and sacrifice.
Ongoing IDF Operations
The IDF has intensified operations in Jabaliya to dismantle the remaining terrorist infrastructure. Just last week, four soldiers from the Multidimensional Unit (Ghost Unit 888) were killed by an explosive device while on a mission in Jabaliya. The fallen soldiers included Capt. Yonatan Keren (22), Sgt. Nisim Mittal (20), Sgt. Aviv Gilboa (21), and Sgt. Naor Haimov (22). Three other soldiers sustained injuries in the incident.
As the conflict continues, the nation mourns the loss of its brave soldiers, and the families affected seek support and solidarity in these challenging times.
