After 12 years in power, Likud chairman Benjamin Netanyahu was not present at the cabinet meeting - which was chaired for the first time by Naftali Bennett.
Bennett opened the cabinet meeting with the blessing "May we live" (Shehechyanu) and said that "we are at the beginning of new days and era. The hardships are behind us. The citizens of Israel are all looking up to us, and now the burden of proof is on us. We will work together to unite the people And quarrels - face forward. "
The new prime minister made it clear that the cabinet meetings would begin on time and called on his ministers to elect the directors of the ministries under them, but carefully and not in a hurry. Better than to hurry "while addressing the Minister of Transport and asking:" Am I okay with this matter? ".

"I think there is a special situation here where the ministers are particularly suited to their positions and it is refreshing," Bennett said. "For this great move to succeed we all need to know how to maintain makeup and restraint in the ideological aspects. It is a very tense blanket. We must focus on doing, in what is called 'life itself', paving roads, public transport, education, health, economy and security, and it will keep government stable "There are so many things that have not been done, and we need to move forward. Every man in his office and doing it. With the help of the name, we will do and succeed."
The new prime minister signed his remarks with a quote from Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk and said: "Rather, let it be in our hearts that we see each of our friends' virtues and not their disadvantages, and that we each speak our friend in the straight and desired way before you, and do not incur any hatred in our hearts."
Before locking up the meeting, Bennett handed over the floor to Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, who was content with brief remarks. "The day is long, so I will be short. What formed this government is friendship and trust and what will hold this government is friendship and trust. If we know how to trust each other, empower each other and work together out of desire - it will succeed."
Among the parties that will form the government are Meretz, whose members have not been in the coalition since the 1990s, as well as the RAAM party, which will be the first Arab party in the coalition before the yeshiva, ministers Yoaz Handel and Matan Kahana resigned as MKs - thus vacating Eilat mayor Meir Yitzhak Halevy and Shirley Pinto (right) who will be the first deaf MK, while Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman had a difficult conversation with MK Eli Avidar who decided to rebel against his party and angered him.
The inauguration took place after more than four hours of heated debate, which began with interjections and slander on the part of Netanyahu camp members during Bennett's inaugural speech, and ended with a speech by Blue and White Chairman Benny Gantz, who will continue as defense minister in the new government.
Immediately after the Knesset vote was approved, US President Joe Biden congratulated Bennett on his inauguration. "I look forward to working with Prime Minister Bennett to strengthen all aspects of the close and lasting relations between our two nations," the US president said. "Israel has no better company than the United States." Bennett thanked Baiden and said he expects to work with him to strengthen ties between the two countries.
The US president was quick to congratulate the Lapid-Bennett government and made it clear that he expects to cooperate with the new government.
