Israelis are using election day for shopping: 38% increase in spending on credit cards

Data from the Automated Bank Services Company on the scope of purchases with credit cards indicates that the Israeli public is also taking advantage of election day for shopping, when there was a 38% increase in Israeli spending on credit cards compared to the previous election day.
The data shows that during the morning hours today, between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., transactions totaling 397.49 million NIS were recorded. As mentioned, this is a sharp jump of 38% in the volume of purchases compared to the previous election day on March 23, 2021. In addition, the busiest minute this morning was 11:58 with over 11,500 transactions per minute and expenses totaling NIS 2.42 million.
For the purpose of comparison, in the elections to the 23rd Knesset on March 2, 2020, the total expenses were 203.51 million NIS, in the elections to the 22nd Knesset on September 17, 2019, the total expenses were 227.51 million NIS, in the elections to the 21st Knesset in April 19, 2019 the total expenses were 197.77 million NIS.
The company Automated Bank Services reported: "The volume of expenses during the morning hours is also higher than the activity on the last Fridays. The jump in spending compared to the last election, which took place a year and a half ago, reflects the continued growth in the use of credit cards and digital wallets as the convenient and common means of payment for Israelis.'
