Ben Gurion Airport and the Ministry of Transport are investigating why the backup system did not work properly for the main luggage sorting system that stopped operating at the luggage conveyor in the port yesterday.
The backup system, in which a lot of money was invested, did not function, causing tens of thousands of passengers to arrive late and in thousands of cases, even without the luggage. Ben Gurion Airport is concerned about a civilian lawsuit over negligence in operating.

Yesterday was one of the busiest days in Ben Gurion Airport. Passengers experienced disruptions and delays. According to a spokesman for the Airports Authority, the source of the problem was the failure of the Benaravans luggage sorting system.
The disruptions were reflected in dozens of flight delays, and the take-off and landing board was painted "red" in light of failure to meet all destinations and all airlines. So far, 35 flights have been delayed, with most flights being delayed to Europe.
The PA spokesman said: " Ben Gurion Airport will continue to take out flights by pasting the flight schedule. "
About 100,000 passengers were departing for summer vacation at Ben Gurion Airport.
Following the delays, PassportCard said any passenger whose suitcase will be delayed on arrival will receive $ 150 directly into the recharged ticket. Harel Insurance will also reimburse any insured whose honor is late to reach the $ 150 destination without deductibles and no receipts.
The Airport Authority spokeswoman said that Terminal 1 is working continuously, and that the system malfunction is only at Terminal 3. Bypass systems are currently being used, and luggage is loaded onto aircraft.
At this point, the flight schedule at Ben Gurion Airport shows many delays. So far, at Ben Gurion Airport, there have been 53,200 passengers on 320 flights (roundtrip). Many flights have not yet taken off, although their original departure time has already passed, including flights from El Al, Arkia, Israir, United, Lot, Agan and others. The length of the delay according to the Ben Gurion Flight schedule varies from 45 minutes to several hours.
