Friday morning, President Yitzhak  Herzog and his wife Michal received the third vaccine against Corona virus. "This is a very important step for the sake of social solidarity in the State of Israel," said President Herzog at the opening of the campaign to receive the complementary dose at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.
"We are launching, we are launching a vaccination campaign to protect the adults in the State of Israel," said Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who accompanied the Herzog couple. "From today there is a new mitzvah - Hassan your father and mother for the sake of prolonging their lives."

Commenting on the criticism voiced by opposition leader MK Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the government's handling of the issue of delaying the introduction of the third vaccine, Bennett replied: "We are acting responsibly. This is not a political decision, this is a medical professional decision.
"This was done only when the information came from the research of Prof. Gili Regev Mashiba, a study that actually brought the insights that there is a certain decline in immunity over time. "They led to a decision by a professional committee. Without it, there is no public trust."
President Herzog said: "I congratulate you Prime Minister and the Government on this courageous decision. We have a young Prime Minister, so they sought and found an adolescent president. I think the step we are taking today is a very important step for social solidarity in the State of Israel."
Herzog added: "The vaccine is reaching out to others, who care about them and we do not want them to be infected because the virus is deadly, dangerous and cunning. In the end, decisions have to be made about how to take care of the entire population."
"I am proud to be the first to be vaccinated for the third time. I wish Israel good health and I call on those who are undecided and there is no doubt that the stabbing hurts, but do not hesitate to take care of your environment at the end.
Prime Minister Bennett and Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz last night announced the start of the third-dose vaccination campaign, although the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) has not yet approved the move. Despite the intention to officially start the operation only on Sunday, most of the HMOs have already started vaccinating people aged 60 and over today.
Yafit and Eli Shapira, members of the Maccabi HMO, were the first to be vaccinated in Ramat Hasharon. The nurse who vaccinated them was their daughter-in-law Moran Shapira.
The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, informed the HMOs yesterday that they could vaccinate third-degree insured persons aged 60 and over, provided that five months had passed since receiving the second vaccine.
The decision of the Ministry of Health's epidemic treatment team to allow a third vaccine for those aged 60 and over raises questions about the effectiveness of the move, and also about the approval process.
Dr. Oren Kuibler, a virologist from the Tel Aviv University School of Medicine and a member of the "Madat" association, points out the main problems that arise.
"In my opinion there is no information on the effectiveness of the move," said Dr. Koebler, "what there are are small studies on an increase in the level of antibodies following the third vaccine among immunosuppressed and non-vaccinated ones. An increase in the amount of antibodies is seen, but the question is whether this is also what will cause disease prevention. It is likely to prevent infection, but it is not certain that it will improve protection against a serious illness, which is currently very good in the vaccinated. I doubt that the additional vaccine will provide increased effectiveness against a serious illness. "
Other experts, on the other hand, think the third vaccine is essential. "I support it because there is a clear decrease in the benefit of the vaccine," said Prof. Galia Rahav, director of the Infectious Diseases Unit at Sheba Medical Center. "It is very noticeable, especially among those who have been vaccinated early. In the UK the vaccine is still effective because the second dose was given recently."
Prof. Rahav added: "The main thing is the decrease in the amount of antibodies. The Delta strain caused a significant increase in morbidity, and on the other hand it took some time to get the vaccines. The purpose of the third dose is only to protect the elderly population. "The vaccine, or they will not meet the grandchildren? The third dose will protect against a serious illness."
After two days in which there was stability in the number of serious patients, there was again an alarming increase. Data from the Ministry of Health published this morning show that 167 corona patients are hospitalized in critical condition in hospitals across the country, compared to 151 yesterday in the morning update. 26 of the patients are connected to respirators.
The data also show that 2,140 verified corona were diagnosed in Israel yesterday. This is the fourth day in a row that more than 2,000 verified people are diagnosed daily. A total of about 94,000 tests were performed yesterday and the positive rate in non-survey tests stands at 2.37% - a figure similar to that of the other days this week.
