The house price index for August-September rose by 0.1% compared with the July-August index, followed by housing prices in the last 12 months, a decrease of 1.9%. New home prices fell by 0.6 percent in August-September and the rate of government-sponsored transactions (occupant price and target price) was 34.1 percent.
The average price of an apartment in Israel was NIS 1.5 million. A breakdown by district shows a rise in prices in the Northern Districts (1.1%), Jerusalem (0.7%) and Haifa (0.4%). In the Southern District an increase of 0.2% was recorded, and in the Central District there was no change in prices and in the Tel Aviv District, a decrease of 0.2%.
The October consumer price index rose 0.3% in line with analysts' forecasts, the Central Bureau of Statistics published Thursday. The rate of price increases in the past twelve months is following the last index of 1.2%. Significant increases were recorded in the prices of clothing and footwear (8.1%) and fresh vegetables (1.5%). Fresh fruit declines were notable (1.6%) and transport (0.5%).
The Central Bureau of Statistics reported that there was a decrease of 2.5% in the number of new dwellings sold in July-September 2018 compared to the previous three months.
The cumulative data on the sale of dwellings point to the trend of a slowdown in the market: In the first nine months of the year, 5,261 apartments were sold, compared with 5,855 apartments sold during the same period last year. This is a 10% decline in sales of new apartments. In contrast, the number of non-sale dwellings (apartments for own use or dwellings constructed by purchase groups) actually increased, and in the first nine months of the year grew by 5.6% compared to the corresponding period last year.
According to the data, the number of new dwellings left for sale under private construction alone stood at 24,340 at the end of September. The number of months waiting for the sale of an apartment for private construction only, in the three months July-September, was 16.2 months on average. The number of new dwellings for sale decreased by 4% on average, between March and October 2017, rising by an average of 3% per month.
