Demonstrations of Ethiopian Jews and their supporters in the wake of the death of Salomon Tekka from the shooting of a policeman in Haifa deteriorated on Tuesday evening to vandalism, anarchy, police and property damage. The riots continued all night. Rioters threw stones at a bus in Petach Tikvah and its windows were smashed, police cars in Kiryat Malachi were stoned, and policemen were attacked after midnight in Afula.
Following riots on Route 431, near the Ramle junction, 10 wounded were evacuated to Assaf Harofeh Hospital, nine of whom were released to their homes. In the disturbances in the Kiryat Malachi area, 33 policemen and four demonstrators were slightly injured.
During the violent incidents demonstrators burned cars in Tel Aviv and Kiryat Ata, turned cars, smashed their windows and even set them on fire in Netanya and Ashdod. A car that was pulled out by police at the Azrieli intersection in Tel Aviv was set on fire and burned down. The many roads that were blocked yesterday for long hours were opened this night.
A total of 83 policemen, demonstrators and passers-by were injured yesterday. 47 of the wounded were policemen.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the demonstrators to exercise restraint: "I know that there are problems that need to be solved, we have worked hard and we must work harder to solve them ... I ask you for one thing, stop the roadblocks, we will not tolerate the roadblocks.
Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan met with the police leadership in Ramle and tried to explain why the police took a long time to take control of the demonstrations: "The Israel Police has made every effort to enable the demonstrators to express their pain, and I am also aware of the great suffering of the general public. "The rapid evacuation would have required the use of large forces that would have led to an escalation of the situation."
Arden added: "Unfortunately, there are violent lawbreakers among the demonstrators who even tried to set fire to police stations and hit the police, we will not tolerate anarchy and we will not allow damage to property."
