Technological achievements: cooperation between the Ministries of Communications and Transport

The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Communications established an inter-ministerial committee for the provision of wireless communication solutions in the field of transportation in Israel.
The growing field of transport requires handling of many applications in a variety of transport topics, from signals to heavy, light and manipulative trains, broadband data for video and data transmission, standard and secure communications for autonomous transportation, and the system revolution in private vehicles.
Of the assets of the two ministries, transportation and communications, ordered the establishment of a joint committee to examine all the needs required to achieve this goal, which began its work during June 2018 and conducted a consumer survey among all the transportation providers in Israel.
In the past year frequencies have been allocated for the use of autonomous transport applications in the DSRC standard, trials of these frequencies have been launched throughout the country, and the committee has added additional frequencies for these needs in accordance with the normal progress in this field.
The most important product of the committee's work is the staff work that led the frequency committee to implement the 5905 59 5925 MHz frequency band for wireless safety system applications for metropolitan rail users in Israel.
Shmuel Azoulay, Director of Licensing in the Spectrum Division of the Ministry of Communications, and Yaakov Magal, Director of Energy Infrastructure Maintenance, Communications and Communications, lead the joint committee on behalf of the two ministries. The committee faces additional complex issues, some of which are planned for public hearing, such as a national cellular network based on cellular infrastructure, a broadband wireless network for security applications and services for passengers.
